“The target dates for both the village and us,” said Rockville Centre school Superintendent Dr. William Johnson, referring to the inter municipal agreements being forged between the schools and the village, “was tonight, but we will work as hard as possible to get the documents completed and shipped off to the boards“ (in time for the next school board meeting on April 20 and the April 29 village meeting). more
The Village of Rockville Centre plays hardball
The Village of Rockville Centre has fired the latest salvo in what is becoming an ongoing war of words between it and the Rockville Centre school district. In a long open letter that the village Board of Trustees sent to the Herald on Monday afternoon, the village stated that if the school district insists on linking the use of school facilities to the restoration of free garbage pickup, the village will be forced to "reassess" the access it provides the schools to village sports fields and facilities. more

Dr. William Johnson and Village Administrator Frank Quigley have not yet had a meeting of minds on issues facing the village and the school district. They have been involved in talks that also include Mayor Mary Bossart and Board of Education President Mark Masin.
Open warfare?
Discussions between Rockville Centre village and school district representatives have so far failed to produce progress on the renewal of a longstanding agreement to share expenses and avoid duplication of services, and school officials expressed their frustration and disappointment at the Dec. 9 Board of Education meeting. more
