In plain sight in Rockville Centre

Posted

More than 200 parents of elementary through high school-aged Rockville Centre students attended “In Plain Sight,” another installment in an ongoing series of workshops, for students and parents alike, to raise awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and the need to make safe choices.

The presentation, which took place on March 21 in the auditorium of South Side High School, featured a discussion led by Rockville Centre Police Commissioner Charles Gennario, Art Rosenthal, the executive director of Confide Drug and Alcohol Counseling on N. Village Ave., a psychologist from South Oaks Hospital in Amityville and a mother from Baldwin, who spoke of her troubled son’s odyssey with chemical

dependency.

A number of school board and village trustees attended, as did village election candidates Mayor Mary Bossart, Francis X. Murray and Nancy Howard. Former Trustee Jeanne Mulry, active with the Rockville Centre Youth Council, also attended. The event was sponsored by the middle and high school PTAs, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Youth Decide and the Rockville Centre Youth Council.
