John McCarthy elected president of Federal bar

Rockville Centre resident John G. McCarthy, a litigation partner in the New York office of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, was installed as president of the Federal Bar Association for the Southern District of New York chapter on March 1.   

McCarthy is a long-time member of the Federal Bar Association and has served as co-chair of the Federal Rules of Procedure and Trial Practice Committee of its national Federal Litigation Section as well as treasurer of the Southern District of New York chapter. He succeeds former president Amy Gell of Gell & Gell.

McCarthy represents domestic and foreign clients in all aspects of business litigation, including business torts, contract disputes, corporate law and governance, director and officer liability, real estate, professional malpractice, bankruptcy, banking, products liability, intellectual property, unfair competition and trade secrets. He has had dozens of trials in federal and state court, including litigation matters in bankruptcy court.

McCarthy received his A.B. degree in Biology from Fordham University in 1988 and earned his law degree from the Fordham University School of Law in 1991. He is admitted to practice in New York, Connecticut, the U.S. Supreme Court, several Federal Circuit Courts, many Federal District Courts and the U.S. Tax Court.
