South Side High School’s girls and boys varsity soccer teams came together last Sunday at 2 p.m. to play a soccer game to benefit the first annual KQ for the Cure, in memory of Kathy Quaresima who lost her life to ovarian cancer two years ago.

Captain Caitlin Hines, with team mates Meghan Hines, Michaela Lynch, Courtney Quaresima and Alex Reis started KQ for the Cure. Through the sale of t-shirts, admission to the game and baked goods, the varsity teams raised over $3,000 which will be donated to aid in research to cure the deadly disease.

The teams played with a mix of boys and girls on each side. They wore teal shirts, the color of ovarian cancer and orange, which was Kathy’s favorite color. As the game took place, parents volunteered at the tables while Simon Brady volunteered to referee the game. The varsity teams are planning to make this an annual event.
