Mercy Hospital broke ground on a new Ambulatory and Family Care Center, aimed at primary and specialty care on Nov. 22.

“Mercy Hospital has a long history of providing families access to quality health care,” President Peter Scaminaci said in a statement. “[It] will further enhance the quality, compassionate care we offer.”

The 16,000-square-foot medical office received $7.3 million in New York state funding and a $1.3 million grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. It will offer expanded services for women and children that are now provided at Mercy Hospital. Pediatric specialists will provide services in allergy/immunology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology and pulmonology.

The hospital recently expanded its telehealth services by offering maternal-fetal medicine care to high-risk expectant mothers of the Family Care Center. Mercy has also increased health care access and offers virtual services to expectant mothers who are diagnosed with diabetes, chronic hypertension, and/or pre-eclampsia; in addition to mothers who need genetic counseling.

Expectant mothers receiving MFM services for any of those conditions will receive Bluetooth-enabled devices, including a tablet with a camera, a glucometer to measure sugar levels, a blood pressure cuff, a pulse oximeter to measure oxygen levels and a scale.
