One hundred two and going strong
Sophie Gerard celebrated her 102nd birthday on Feb. 15 — her first as a Rockville Centre resident.
Sophie was born in Brooklyn where she lived with her family until she moved to Manhattan 22 years ago. She came to Rockville Centre in July 2009 and is living with her niece and nephew, Susan and Elliott Winograd, long time residents of the village.
Sophie spends time reading and most especially likes mystery books. She is also a devotee of word games, like those carried by most newspapers, which she also scours form cover to cover every day.
Weather permitting, Sophie takes a casual walk close to home and very much enjoys the greenery of the town. She has been welcomed by her new neighbors who are in awe of her wit, wisdom and sociability.
The Winograds and Sophie's many admirers wished her a happy birthday. Here’s to 103!
