The Church of the Ascension in Rockville Centre invited members of the community to come shop, dine and celebrate with members of the N. Village Avenue parish during its 25th biennial Friendship Fair, from Friday, October 13 to Saturday, October 14.

Judi Broadhurst, chairperson of the church’s steering committee, said that despite some rainy weather on the second day of the event, the Friendship Fair was on par with the festivities held in years past.

“Friday was perfect weather,” Broadhurst said. “Saturday it was pouring rain but people were absolute troopers and came out anyway. In spite of the weather we had a great turnout.”

In order to help out, parishioners of all different ages agreed to volunteer their time to arrange tables and decorations. Broadhurst said that because it requires so much planning and preparation to pull off, the steering committee only hosts the event every two years.

This year’s festivities included a silent auction, raffles, a brand-new beer tent, seasonal foods including BBQ sandwiches and cider donuts, and tag sales featuring a variety of books, jewelry, DVDs, vinyl records, artwork and other collectibles.
