Limoge box exhibit

Small boxes have been used for centuries to contain cosmetics, beauty patches, hair, powder, salves, jewelry and many other uses.These small treasures were made of all sorts of material. The Rockville Centre Museum has the Mr.& Mrs. Michael J. Gibbons collection of handpainted porcelain limoge boxes acquired in Paris on display at the Phillips House Museum, 28 Hempstead Ave. through May 2. Also included are contemporary Faberge Eggs produced at the Faberge Factory by selected artists and Russian Lacquered boxes.The museum is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for admission, but donations are always welcome.Call Frank Seipp at (5160 764-7459 for more information.

Art demonstration

The Village Art Club is pleased to welcome popular instructor and very accomplished artist Janice Nesta, who will demonstrate painting a watercolor picture on March 25 in the downstairs meeting room of the Rockville Centre Public Library. 221 N. A history of Irish traditional music in America

As part of the free series of cultural events and lectures sponsored by Molloy College's Irish Studies Institute, Robert Lynch will tell and perform the history of Irish Traditional Music in America beginning at 3 p.m. on March 28 in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Wilbur Arts Center. Blood drive at Mercy Medical Center

Mercy Medical Center invites and encourages members of the community to participate in a blood drive to support Long Island Blood Services on March 30, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the first floor of the St. Anne’s building on the hospital campus. Anyone between the ages of 17 and 75 who is in good health and weighs at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Healthy individuals over 75 can donate blood if they present written permission from their physician obtained within two weeks of their donation. Donors should have eaten and should bring reading glasses and ID with signature, and know their Social Security number. Fortnightly Club meeting

On April 6 the Fortnightly Club will host a book discussion of author Tatiana de Rosnay's work, "Sarah's Key." Refreshments will be served after the discussion. The meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. at St.Mark's Methodist Church on Hempstead Avenue.

Birth, Baby and Beyond

On April 10, Mercy Medical Center will host a day-long educational seminar for those planning a family or already expecting. From 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. the conference will feature exhibits, workshops and presentations by physicians, nurses and staff addressing various aspects of childbirth, including labor, delivery, breast feeding and parenting. Workshop presentations will include information on pain management during labor, basics of newborn care, infant nutrition, car seat safety and a “Daddy Boot Camp” providing tips and strategies for fathers. Registration of $10 per person or $15 per couple includes continental breakfast and lunch, along with free raffles, give-aways and door prizes. Free pain clinic

Action Sports Medicine & Pain Management, 1010 Sunrise Highway will host a pain clinic to offer consultations for neck and back pain as well as conduct non-surgical management of orthopedic problems and sports injuries.The clinic, will be open on April 10 and the second and fourth Saturday from 10 a.m. -1 p.m.. Action Sports Medicine & Pain Management also seeks volunteers in this endeavor. Physicians who are Board Certified in Physical Medicine, rehabilitation or pain management should call (516) 294-5872 if interested in volunteering to assist with these complimentary clinics. 92Y Live— A World in Crisis: What are Our Moral Obligations? With Elie Wiesel

At 8 p.m. on April 15 at 8 p.m., Temple B’nai, 100 Hempstead Ave., will host a live satellite broadcast from the 92nd Street Y. Explore the obligations of humans in general, and the Jewish community in particular, in responding to the crises around us — from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the looming threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, from an unstable Pakistan to genocide in Africa. Indoor Flea Market and Giant Book Sale

On April 16 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. the Rockville Centre Sandel Senior Center, 50 S. Park Ave. will hold this important fundraiser. Admission is free. Items for sale include a wide variety of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, household items, new and vintage jewelry, bric a brac , toys and books. For information, call (516) 678-9245.

Spring luncheon and fashion show

The Rockville Centre Auxiliary is hosting a Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show on April 20 at Noon, at the Pompei Restaurant in West Hempstead. Tickets are $35 and will include a charitable contribution to the (AHRC) Nassau to benefit both children and adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Easter Egg Hunt

March 27 at 9:30 a.m. Follow the bunny down the bunny trail to the annual Easter Egg hunt. Prizes for special numbered eggs. Raindate is March 28 at 2 p.m. No fee, no pre-registration is required.

Annual Spring Pet Show

April 6 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. For children at the Rec Center. Bring your pet dog, cat, gerbil, lizard, bird, etc. to be judged for the smallest, largest, most talented, etc. Ribbons will be awarded in various categories. Spectators are welcome. There is no fee, but registration is required.

Recess gym and game room schedule

The Rec Center hosts “Open Gym and Game” for students in grades 4 and up during school recesses including this Passover/Easter break. From March 29 through April 3 and on April 5 and 6 the center is open to students in grades 4-12 from 1 p.m. - 4:30. The Rec. is open to students in grades 6 through 12 from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m. (except for April 5). Activities include basketball, X-Box and ping pong under the supervision of Rec. Center staff. Young village residents are invited down to the Rec. with friends for an afternoon of fun. The only other ingredients for a good time are a valid Rec. Center card and a pair of sneakers.

Rec Center Nursery School

registration - Registrations are now being accepted for the RVC Recreation Center’s Nursery School programs fro the 2010-11 school year. Pre-K classes for those entering kindergarten in Sept. 2011 are offered five days a week from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from, 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Pre-Pre-K classes for those entering kindergarten in Sept. 2012 are offered Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or Tuesday and Thursday from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. To schedule an appointment to visit the school, call the Recreation Center office at

Connor and Friends

One Sunday a month from 2:30-4 p.m., trained recreation personnel provide a fun and safe activity environment for children with special needs, including autism and Down Syndrome. The next playdate is scheduled for April 11. Contact Paul Lawless at MPLawless@ verizon.net to make a reservation.

AARP Tax Assistance Program:

Representatives from the AARP Tax

Assistance Program will be at the Sandel Senior Center every Friday morning from 9:00am to 12 noon. You must make an appointment by calling the Sandel Senior Center. This service is available to RVC Seniors 60+.

Chinese Auction

March 26 at 1pm. This auction is complete with egg rolls, almond cookies and Chinese tea. $4 per person ($8 late fee applies).

Lions Recycle

The Sandel Center is now an official drop-off point for used or broken prescription eyeglasses, non-prescription sunglasses, old hearing aids and old cell phones. Donations can be brought to the Senior Center Mon-Fri from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sandel Senior Men’s Club:

The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. for breakfast and business. At 11 a.m., when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men. A variety of trips and programs are scheduled for July and August.

Special Needs Mass

The Parish of St. Agnes welcomes all to its monthly Mass for special needs children of all ages and their families. The next Mass is on April 24. These Masses are held on Saturdays at 5 p.m. in the Lower Hall of the Msgr. Melton Auditorium which is handicapped accessible through the Parish Center.
