Rockville Centre Crime Watch: 10/1

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

Stanley Vilsaint, 30, of Lenox Avenue, Uniondale was arrested on Sept. 14 at 8:15 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police say they arrested Vilsaint after they stopped him for failing to signal a turn on Sunrise Highway near Yorktown Street and observed several small plastic bags containing a substance they identified as powdered cocaine protruding from the interior driver's door panel.

Vincent Tilts, 26, of N. Terrace Place, Valley Stream, was arrested at 3: 30 p.m. on Sept. 17 and charged with petit larceny. According to police, they arrested Rilts after he was observed taking 13 CDs from King Kullen, 127 Sunrise Highway, without paying for the items.

Ailing Lu, 55, of Florida Avenue, Atlantic City, N.J. and Jin Mei Shen, 47, of Linden Place, Flushing, were arrested on Sept. 17 at 4:45 p.m. inside Ruby's Salon, 492 Merrick Road. Lu was charged with unauthorized practice and prostitution and Shen was charged with two counts of unauthorized practice. Police said they were arrested pursuant to a police investigation in which both women were found to be practicing body massage without a license. Police said Lu also offered to perform a sexual act in exchange for money.

Christopher Ryan, 43, of Acapulco Street, Atlantic Beach was arrested on Sept. 17 at 5:55 p.m. and charged with criminal contempt and obstructing governmental administration. According to police, Ryan was arrested after he showed up at his ex-girlfriend's place of employment at 19 S. Park Ave. in violation of a court order directing that he stay away from her. Police say Ryan also physically obstructed police officers when they attempted to affect his arrest.

Auto thefts

On Sept 18 at 8:30 p.m. a 53-year-old man told police that between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. someone stole his 2008 Mercedes Benz S 550 from the parking lot of Frank's Steak House, 56 Lincoln Ave.

At 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 19, a 61-year-old man reported to police that between 7:15 p.m. and 7:35 p.m., someone stole his 2009 Mercedes Benz ML 350 from the same parking lot next to 56 Lincoln Ave.

Burglary

On Sept. 14 at 4:05 p.m. the owner of American Burgers, 326A Sunrise Highway, reported to police that between Sept. 13 at 9:30 p.m. and the next morning at 7:30 a.m., someone broke into his restaurant through a rear window, broke open a safe in his basement office and stole approximately $5,180 in cash and a laptop computer.

Identity theft

At 2:25 p.m. on Sept. 16, a N. Village Ave. resident reported to police that between Sept. 9 and Sept 16, someone using her name and social security number closed her telephone account and transferred her telephone number to another company, without her knowledge or permission.

Larceny

On Sept. 8 at 10:15 a.m. an employee of the Rockville Nursing Center, 41 Maine Ave. told police that someone stole $400 in cash and personal checks from a desk drawer in the Accounting Department.
