At the village briefing session on Feb. 3, the board of trustees — with village department heads — discussed recent developments in the community and took action on a few separate items.

An update on the snow cleanup

While snow removal budget numbers are still being crunched, Village Administrator Frank Quigley provided an update about the recent snow cleanup efforts. He said that Centennial Park and Bligh Field, which were used as drop off sites for snow piled up in municipal lots, have both been filled to capacity. For snows in February and March, the Department of Public Works will now use Hempstead Lake State Park for excess snow. A thorough update of the fiscal toll from the winter storms is expected soon, said a village spokesman.

Hewitt School address change

Mayor Mary Bossart informed the board that she received a letter from the school superintendent and the board of education requesting an official change of address for Hewitt Elementary School. Bossart said that there has been some confusion with the address of the school, which should be 446 Hempstead Ave. An ambulance that was recently dispatched went to 446 DeMott Ave. under the impression it was the correct address for Hewitt. The board authorized a motion to send a letter to the post office in order to establish the correct address of the school and avoid any future confusion.

SLA hearing: Skerries Tavern

Police Commissioner Charles Gennario discussed a notice he received from the State Liquor Authority about Skerries Tavern, operating as the Dark Horse Tavern at 12 S. Park Ave. The notice requested anyone from the board of trustees to raise any concerns it might have about the establishment, which is within 500 feet of three other bars in the village. The tavern is currently operating under an old license while it is in the process of applying for a new one. The board authorized a motion during the briefing session to write a letter indicating any concerns or issues it might have about the bar and its application process for the SLA to take into consideration.

Release of surety bond

Village Administrator Frank Quigley said during the briefing session that a 10-year-old agreement with Cablevision in the form of a $100,000 corporate surety bond has expired. While a new agreement with the company has already been signed, Quigley informed the board that he was unable to find original documentation of the bond from 2001. A motion was made during the briefing session to send a letter to Cablevision explaining that the original document hasn't been found, and to confirm that the bond is no longer required and can be released.
