For more than 50 years, the St. Agnes Knights of Columbus Council No. 2548 in Rockville Centre invite youth athletes, between the ages of 9 and 14, to compete in a basketball free throw competition.

The contest began in 1972 and is held every year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to provide boys and girls in the community with an athletic outlet while encouraging the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition.

This year, between 20 and 30 kids came out to compete. Each participant is split into different categories based on gender, age, and progress—which range from local club teams to district, regional and state competitors.

During the event, the St. Agnes Knights of Columbus were joined by basketball players from Molloy University and their coaches, who were there to help encourage the young competitors, many of whom look up to these players with respect and admiration.
