Thanks for their hard work

The Rockville Centre Council of PTA honored members of the Rockville Centre Board of Education during a break in the Oct. 20 regular board meeting. The group provided home-baked dessert delicacies and drinks for everyone at the meeting to enjoy.

At his opportunity to speak, school Superintendent Dr. William Johnson said that it was time "to embarrass" five very special volunteers — the members of the Board of Education who, from left, are Trustee Liz Dion, Vice President Kathy Horace, President Mark Masin, Secretary Doreen Cordova and Trustee Stephen Kriss.

“The work they do provides real benefit to the community and the children served by this very fine school district,“ Johnson said, and he mentioned the great deal of responsibility that comes with the job of being a school board trustee.

“This group of individuals,” he added, “take their work very seriously. We are very fortunate to have their leadership and their care and concern for the children.”

Barbara Schoen, representing the PTAs, also addressed the board and said its members are to be commended for taking on the most difficult of jobs. She thanked the trustees for their partnership with parents in raising children in this day and age.
