Three men — two from Rockville Centre — were arrested last Sunday and charged with attempted burglary and assault.
According to police, the three broke into a home on New Street in Oceanside through its rear door. Police said they planned to beat up a man with whom one had an ongoing dispute.
Police said that Rufino Salles Jr., 42, of Merrick Road; Michael Garcia, 35, of Jefferson Avenue; and John Salles, 41, of Cammerer Avenue in East Rockaway entered the house and punched three male victims, ages 46, 23 and 20, causing lacerations, a possible broken nose and a possible broken hand. The victims did not receive immediate medical attention.
According to 4th Precinct detectives, Garcia and John Salles attempted to flee the scene in a 2010 Nissan Frontier, but were caught while still on New Street. Nassau County police aviation and canine units joined the search for Rufino Salles, who was eventually found by a canine officer just before midnight, hiding under the axle of a tractor-trailer.
All three men were charged with first-degree burglary and three counts of second-degree assault. They were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
