Work starts on N. Village Ave fence

After accepting a grant in July, the Village of Rockville Centre has begun to replace the broken and beat-up fence that lines the strip of land between North Village Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard.

For years, the fence along the road has been in a state of horrible disrepair: trees and branches have fallen on it, sections have collapsed and others are overgrown with plants and vines.

In July, the village accepted a $75,000 grant from Nassau County, which Legislator Howard Kopel helped to secure. to improve the 1.5 mile strip of land.

The strip of land has been an eyesore for a long time. Last February, the county worked to clean up the stretch on North Village Avenue. Though some of the gnarled plants and downed trees were removed, a long, broken chain-link fence was still in place.

The village bid the work out to independent contractors, who were working last week to clean the area more and remove the fence and poles.

The county and village are working together to remove and replace the fence.
