Sen. Dean Skelos was one of the many who visited Greis Park in Lynbrook from June 10-13 to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the Vietnam War. Many visited the wall in hopes of finding the name of a loved one inscribed on the wall.

Nassau County Court Judge David Ayres did not mince words as he sentenced William Walsh to 18 years to life on June 23 for the murder of his wife, Rockville Centre native Leah Hirschel Walsh, in October 2008. In a Mineola courtroom packed with Leah's family members and friends, Ayres described Walsh as a cold-blooded murderer who should never again be a free man, and he pledged to make sure that any future parole board considering Walsh's release would be made aware of his opinion.

Excitement, anticipation and pride filled the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex at Hofstra University last Friday afternoon, as hundreds of family members and friends watched members of South Side High School's class of 2010 file into their seats, accompanied by junior class members of the National Honor Society, and strains of "Pomp and Circumstance." The flag salute and the national anthem, sung by Crystalyn Wynter — a member of the graduating class — got the program off to a moving start.

Anger, outrage and a love of dogs brought more than 100 protesters from all over New York to Rockville Centre's Village Hall Tuesday night. Armed with signs that read, "Ban the deed not the breed," they gathered to demonstrate their opposition to Local Law 9, which bans pit bulls and Rottweilers in the village.
