The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the New York Racing Association are encouraging racing fans to take the Long Island Rail Road to Belmont Park when the historic racetrack reopens Friday following a three-year redevelopment.
The Elmont-UBS Arena station will serve as the primary transit gateway throughout the 2026 fall meet, with NYRA providing continuous shuttle service from the station platform to the racetrack during racing hours. Belmont Park is also within walking distance of the station.
The LIRR will add 17 trains serving the station on opening day. Its regular schedule includes 90 trains each weekday and 159 each weekend day, providing service from New York City and communities across Long Island.
“When we opened Elmont-UBS Arena Station, we knew customers would take full advantage of the reliability and high level of service that the Long Island Rail Road provides,” said LIRR President Rob Free. “Millions of people have taken the Long Island Rail Road to attend various events at the park, giving fans from Long Island and across New York City a convenient and great customer experience.”
The MTA also encouraged fans to consider public transportation options beyond the railroad.
The three-day opening weekend runs through Sept. 20. Opening Day will feature the Grade 1, $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup, along with live entertainment and other festivities.
“We are thrilled to unveil a new and reimagined Belmont Park on September 18 and encourage fans to ride the LIRR to the races this fall,” said David O’Rourke, NYRA president and CEO. “It’s a new era for Belmont Park and world class horse racing in New York.”
The 46-day fall meet continues through Dec. 6, with live racing generally scheduled Thursday through Sunday. General admission is $7 when purchased in advance and $10 on the day of the event. Admission on Sept. 19 and 20 is $10 and includes a commemorative program.
The redeveloped venue features a modern grandstand, new fan amenities and hospitality offerings, and four newly constructed racing surfaces.
