Charles Rattoballi, associate village justice, dies at 85

Charles R. Rattoballi, a former village attorney for Valley Stream and associate village justice, died of a heart attack on Nov. 14, 2010. He was 85.

Rattoballi served as the village justice for 12 years, primarily in the 1970s. He also had served as the associate village justice under Robert Bogle since April 1995. In addition, he had a private practice in Valley Stream.

As associate village justice, Rattoballi would assist Bogle, handling plea bargains and performing weddings. He lived on Albermarle Avenue and was a regular customer at Mitchell’s restaurant.

Rattoballi was a member and past exalted ruler of New York Elks Lodge No. 1. He was an Army veteran and served the United States during World War II.

“Charlie was one of the good guys,” said village attorney Michael McKenna. “I think everyone will agree on that.”

He is survived by his son Anthony and his wife Peggy, son Charles Jr., son Peter and his wife Laura, daughter Susan Short, brothers Joseph and James, and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Church. He will be interred at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
