Diocese enters partnership with Holy Name school

Starting in September 2021, the Diocese of Rockville Centre will start a new dual-language school—which will be a new pilot approach to school oversight and strategic planning in partnership with the Holy Name of Mary School. The partnership is intended to fill in gaps left by the recent closures neighboring Catholic schools.

The school will be part of a system servicing nursery-school aged students up to eighth grade and with sister schools in Deer Park and Central Islip and overseen by the Marianist Brother organization called the Morning Star Initiative.

“The Morning Star Initiative Team, the Department of Education and our schools have been hard at work to transform Catholic education on Long Island,” Rockville Centre Diocese Bishop John Barres said in a statement.

The partnership with the initiative is intended to pilot a new governance model at the Holy Name of Mary School.

Under an agreement with the Rev. David Regan, pastor of the Parish of Holy Name of Mary, the Morning Star Initiative team is intended to support Holy Name of Mary Catholic School to achieve spiritual, moral, cultural and academic growth as it expands to serve a number of transfer students from closing neighboring schools.

The parish will continue to provide material support to the school and the Department of Education and Morning Star Initiative team will assist Regan and principal Pamela Sanders with planning and academic leadership with a hope of ensuring a sustainable future aligned with the four pillars of the Morning Star Initiative.
