Rockville Centre resident Ellery Samuels has been chosen as a finalist in the The Long Island Museum’s juried photography competition, “Eye on Long Island.” Samuels and other photographers in the area were invited to submit up to three works representing people, places and things on Long Island. His abstract photograph, “Birch Forest” will be displayed in the museum’s community room from Aug. 12 through Sept. 5 and is eligible to win one of four cash prizes.  Four winning entries will be displayed in the Art Museum, along with the exhibition “Fixed Images: Photographs from the Baker/Pisano Collection" from Sept. 9 through Oct. 2. The museum will host an artist’s reception on Aug. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. where all final entries will be on view and winners will be awarded. The reception is open to the public and is free with regular museum admission. Visitors will enjoy live music and refreshments will be served.  All participating photographers will receive complimentary admission to the museum’s exhibitions.   Located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, the Long Island Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate dedicated to art and history as it relates to Long Island. The museum is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Regular admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for students 6-17. Fireworks, music and dancing, under the stars Guest conductor Theresa Cheung will lead The South Shore Symphony Orchestra in a performance of pop, show and Americana music at the annual Village Celebration with fireworks by Grucci, this Saturday, July 9 at 7:45 p.m. at Centennial Park by Mill River. Leggz Ltd. dancers will join the orchestra in the free performance. Pack a picnic basket and bring your chairs and blankets and enjoy the fireworks display, starting at 9:15, which this year will be choreographed to a recording of previous South Shore Symphony performances, broadcast over a new sound system with speakers on both sides of Mill River Under the leadership of Scott Jackson Wiley, the South Shore Symphony has grown to include professional musicians and gifted high school musicians, in addition to dedicated amateur players.
