Former village justice to be honored at Mayor's Gold & Tennis Classic on Sept. 26 The Mayor’s annual Golf and Tennis Classic and Dinner, the primary fundraiser for the Rockville Centre Community Fund, will honor former Village Justice Robert Williams, at right, this Monday, Sept. 26 at the Seawane Country Club in Hewlett Harbor. Tickets and sponsorships for the all-day event, as well as journal ads are still available. The donation for lunch, cocktails and dinner as well as a round of golf is $350. The donation for tennis, lunch and dinner is $225. Dinner-only tickets are $125. To make a reservation, call Mary Rohrs at (516) 678-9260. Each year the Community Fund provides confidential assistance to hundreds of people in emergency need. Unlike other non-profit charities, the fund is directed exclusively to Rockville Centre residents, who have received nearly $1 million since the fund was started in 1987.

Planning a safe, social community for local youth New members are welcome to attend the Rockville Centre Youth Council’s first general meeting of the school year this coming Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Rec Center, 111 N. Oceanside Road. The council is planning a Battle of the Bands in September and a bowling night at RVC Lanes in October. Additional meeting are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11; Monday, Nov. 7 and Tuesday, Dec.13 — all at the Rec Center at 7:30 p.m. In the photo above, RVC Youth Council adult board members and student officers exchanged ideas and discussed plans at the group’s second annual leadership retreat that was held on Aug. 30 at the Sandel Senior Center.
