Those charges, however, were revealed in State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s audit of the Elmont Fire District from Jan. 1, 2009, to July 31, 2010. Tania Lawes’ last day on the Elmont Memorial Library’s Board of Trustees was June 23. Lawes served as president of the board for three terms, and as vice president for two terms, and chose not to seek re-election for the board position. Kathy Rau won Lawes’ seat in May, after running uncontested and receiving 943 votes. more

Elmont residents have long sought revitalization of the old Argo Theater, a 2.9-acre property on Hempstead Turnpike and Elmont Road. Thanks to a vote last Tuesday by the Hempstead Town Board — including Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilman Ed Ambrosino and Councilman James Darcy — it looks like that plan is finally coming to fruition. more
